WASHINGTON, D.C. – Excitement over the Smithsonian’s new baby panda, as sadly turned to tears. The National Zoo delivered the bad news, the baby panda born last week was found dead after zoo keepers heard its mother crying. After a look see, zoo vets say the baby had a discolored liver and fluid in its abdomen.

Giant pandas are endangered, and having babies isn’t easy for them, that are what makes this loss such a tragic one. This was the first successful panda cub birth at the Smithsonian since the 1980s!

Being one of just four-museums in the country that even has giant pandas; the National Zoo is just going to have to focus on the pandas that are healthy.
