HOUSTON, TX – The month of October is often about two things. Finding the scariest or sexiest costume you can, or wearing as much pink as fashionable possible to support breast cancer. While that’s all good, October is also domestic violence awareness month.
With 74% of Americans affected by domestic violence either personally or through a family member or friend, this month brings awareness we all need. About a year ago the Harris County Domestic Violence Coordinating Council began an assessment of the city’s domestic violence services. With the help of Houston Police and other agencies they were able to find gaps in services and hopefully fix the problems.
Not just this month, but every month we should all be aware of what are friends and family are going through.
