HOUSTON – It’s been a bad day for Texas Southern University.

Remember when members of the university band were accused of hazing? They’re feeling the punch now. Several members of the Oceans of Soul were found guilty of hazing. Now those involved are being suspended from the university and permanently removed from the band. Their band scholarships—revoked!

Things aren’t looking better in the athletic department. The NCAA slapped TSU with penalties against the football and basketball team.

A report released by the NCAA outlined a laundry list of violations, including recruiting violations, academic issues, the use of ineligible athletics and that they exceeded scholarship limits.

The consequences, also a laundry list, but in short, the football team is under a five year probation and there’s a ban on the men’s upcoming basketball season.
