LA QUEBRADA, PERU – Every dog has its day, but cats get their own festival. Too bad its humans that are eating the “meow mix.”

Whoever said “curiosity killed the cat” obviously hasn’t been to Peru. The town of La Quebrada chowed down on kitties at – where else? – the annual Gastronomic Festival of the Cat.

The festival is a nod to when the settlers were forced to survive on cat meat. So what better way to commemorate dark times than to re-live them?!

Dozens of cats are bred for the festival, which is held every September.

It no doubt comes with its fair share of controversy. Some say it’s wrong to eat the cute kitties; others say it’s just meat.

Guess those nine lives have to run out sometime.
