HONG KONG – The 39 people who died after two ferries collided in Hong Kong earlier this month has brought to light an unfortunate statistic. Only one in every five people living in Hong Kong can swim.
That’s not very impressive for a population of seven million people.
Alex Kwok, head of the Hong Kong Lifeguard Union is calling on the government to take charge and do something about it. Kwok believes had more of the people aboard those farriers known how to swim, the number of deaths could have been much lower.
