HOUSTON, TX – State Senator Mario Gallegos died of liver disease about a month before the election. He was 62-years-old.
Even though he has passed on, Gallegos still won re-election.
On Monday, State Representative Carol Alvarado announced she will run for his seat.
The Gallegos family says the senator had hoped Alvarado would run for his seat.
Alvarado will likely take on RW Bray (the guy Gallegos just beat) and former Harris County Commissioner Sylvia Garcia.
The special election will be held next month.
