David Petraeus affair snares another general

WASHINGTON, DC – The tawdry tale surrounding former CIA director David Petraeus is as complicated as one of those daytime soap operas: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the betrays of our lives.

And, strange as it sounds, there’s even a connection to the Big Dawg himself, former president Bill Clinton.

Listen closely, class, because this may be on the test.

The FBI caught retired general and former CIA director David Petraeus exchanging scandalous e-mails with his biographer and army reserve officer Paula Broadwell.

The probe began after Jill Kelley, a Tampa, Fla., socialite told an FBI friend that someone was sending her harassing e-mails.

The FBI won’t identify the agent, but they took him off the case and have apparently disciplined him for sending a shirt-less photo of himself to Kelley.

During the investigation, the FBI learned Kelley had exchanged hundreds, if not thousands, of pages of e-mail with Gen. John Allen, who replaced Petraeus as the top military man in Afghanistan. Allen was Petraeus’ deputy when Petraeus was at Central Command in Tampa, where Kelley lives.

Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, who was Director of Central Intelligence before Petraeus, advised President Obama to withdraw Allen’s nomination to be NATO’s supreme allied commander in Europe.

Kelley has reached out and retained some heavyweight Washington help.

She’s hired family friend Abbe Lowell, who was a lawyer for the House Democrats during the Clinton impeachment proceedings,

And Judy Smith, who just may be Washington’s top crisis manager, the model for the TV show ‘Scandal’, and Monica Lewinsky’s crisis manager during that whole ‘sex with Bill’ thing.

And that, class, is how Bill Clinton gets dragged into Washington’s latest sex scandal.

Tune in tomorrow for another episode of Betrays of our Lives.
