Man walks into police station, shoots cop

SOUTHFIELD, MI – The Southfield Michigan police department lobby became the scene of a shooting over the weekend.

Police say a man walked into the station and made his way to the front desk. An officer asked how he could help the man, but he didn’t say anything.

“The officer said he had a blank stare on his face. He appeared to be staring in the distance and did not say a word to the officer at all,” said Chief Eric Hawkins.

The man then pulled out a gun and tried firing it, but it didn’t work at first. That gave officers enough time to pull out their weapons and a shootout ensued. The suspect was hit. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

An officer was also hit in the shoulder, but is expected to be OK.

As for the suspect’s motive, police think he was suicidal, so they’re calling it a “suicide by cop” situation.
