Man points laser beam at police helicopter
SEMINOLE COUNTY, FL – There’s a lot of do’s and don’ts when you’re on an airplane. But there’s also a big no-no if you’re on the ground. No laser beams!
In case you didn’t know, pointing a laser beam at an airplane is against state and federal law because it creates a temporary flash of blindness in the cockpit, almost like a camera flash. But 24-year-old Usman Tufail either didn’t know or he’s just an idiot. We’ll go with the latter.
Seminole County, Florida authorities say they were tailing a burglary suspect in the chopper when they got hit with a laser. The pilot had to stop the pursuit because they lost the suspect. They may have lost their bad guy, but authorities were able to track down where the beam came from. They found Usman and confronted him, but he denied it. After a bit of coaxing, he confessed and said he did it because he wanted to see how far the laser would shine.
And that’s how Usman, with his bright idea, became our Dumbass of the Day!
