WASHINGTON, D.C. – Looks like the freedom of speech isn’t free. A Virginia contractor is suing a woman for $750,000 after she blasted him on review websites Yelp and Angie’s List.

Jane Perez accused the contractor, Dietz Development, of shady business practices and damaging her home. She even implied a worker stole her jewelry.

Instead of taking it lying down, Dietz Development filed an internet defamation lawsuit. They claim the bad reviews are false and cost them about $300,000 worth of potential business.

Now the ACLU and Public Citizen is getting in on the action. Surprise, surprise: these guys say the lawsuit basically boils down to censorship.

This won’t be battled out in the courtroom any time soon. So in the meantime, a judge has ordered Perez to delete a few of her offending reviews.

Talk about putting your money where your mouth is.
