Air China plans to offer non-stop flights from Houston to Beijing
HOUSTON, TX – We have some good news, bad news for you. First the good news.
When you have had enough of Houston’s air pollution and ozone alerts, you might be able to hop on a plane and jet your way over to China.
Air China says if the US Department of Transportation agrees, it will offer non-stop service between Houston and Beijing. That could start as early as this coming July.
“Non-stop flight will undoubtedly shorten the journey between Houston and Beijing,’ said Erwen Xu, the Chinese Consul General in Houston. ‘I am sure, what is more important, this will add another window of cooperation between Houston and China, between our two great nations.”
China has four consulates around the country, but Houston is the only city with a consulate that does not offer non-stop flights to Bejing.
‘The fact that we now have this direct flight between Houston and Beijing is a testament to the strength of our economy, but it’s also a testament to Houston as a gateway to the heartland of the United States,” said Mayor Annise Parker.
Now for the bad news.
Pollution is Beijing is so bad right now that they’re calling it the ‘air-pocalypse.’
The airport has cancelled or delayed flights into and out of the city, and the government is keeping school kids from participating in outdoor sports.
So, yeah, just one more thing that Houston and china have in common.
