WASHINGTON, DC – Back when Barack Obama was a state senator in Illinois, he voted twice against a bill that would let people use handguns to defend themselves in their own homes.
Now that he’s President, he apparently appreciates the idea of having a lot of guns around.
He just signed a bill that restores lifetime Secret Service protection for presidents and first ladies who served after January first, 1997.
It replaces the law that ended protection ten years after a President left office.
For those keeping track at home, we have four living former Presidents, if you count Jimmy Carter. (Hey, just kidding. You can count him.) But only two will get protection. Can you guess which ones?
The bill also protects the children of former Presidents until they reach sixteen.
At age eleven, only Sasha Obama is covered once her dad leaves the White House. That means 14-year-old Malia will be on her own. Guess she’ll be sticking pretty close to mom and dad for a while, huh?
