HOUSTON, TX – Hey parents! If you think you’re helping your kids by paying their college costs, you might be doing them a disservice.

A study from the University of California, Merced, suggests that the more parents pay towards students education is linked to lower GPA’s. Most students we spoke with agree.

The difference was less noticeable at elite schools than at other expensive, private schools, though the graduation rate is also higher for students whose parents give them a full ride, since many students can’t afford to stay in college on their own.

Parents might get a better return on their investment if they set guidelines and expectations for their kids. It turns out, giving your kids a free ride on their education, may be teaching them the wrong thing.
