HOUSTON – All-Star Weekend brought a huge crowd to the Houston Galleria.

If you were there, you probably wish you hadn`t been. Social media went crazy with people posting pictures of the jam packed mall.

Mall officials had to call the Houston Police Department Strategic Response Group to help shut down the mall almost an hour early because of overcapacity.

The Galleria`s general manager, Greg Noble released this statement:

‘For the past several days, The Galleria, in conjunction with the Houston Police Department (HPD) and the Houston Fire Department, has monitored mall traffic and crowds in town for the All Star Game. At 8:15 p.m. yesterday, The Galleria reached legal capacity and officially closed.

As always, our primary concern is for the safety and well being of our shoppers and mall employees. Following discussions with HPD, mall entrances were closed by the police and mall security.  At this time, The Galleria plans to re-open at its normal time of 11:00 a.m. today. As always, mall management maintains a close working relationship with the HPD which is particularly beneficial during times of high traffic, such as this weekend.’
