NEW YORK, NY – It’s been nearly 12 years since that fateful day in September. It’s hard to believe, but remnants of some victims might still be trapped in the World Trade Center debris. 21 potential human fragments were recovered, though we won’t know for sure until DNA testing is complete. That brings the total number of fragments to 39.

The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office launched a 10-week program to sift through the World Trade Center debris. With so many fragments found in the first few days alone, we wonder just how many victims can finally rest in peace once the program is done.
