HOUSTON, TX – In honor of Earth Day, the state’s Department of Transportation is revamping their ‘Don’t Mess with Texas’ campaign. The goal is to cut down on littering.

“There were more than 1.1 billion pieces of trash accumulated across state highways and roadways in 2009,” said Bob Kaufman, Chief Communications Officer of TxDot.

Kaufman says 400 million cigarette butts made-up part of that amount.
