Is Cap’n Crunch really a captain?

capnAKRON, OH – Tongue-in-cheek controversy threatens to sink reputation of a beloved cereal icon.

A writer at foodbeast.com pointed out that Cap’n Crunch isn’t actually a captain. According to the U.S. Navy the rank of captain carries four stripes; three would indicate he’s a commander.

Being a commander crunch doesn’t exactly have the same bite, especially since we’ve been calling him captain since the cereal first set sail in 1963.

With this mutiny on his hands the Cap’n took to Twitter to keep his image afloat:
