Is Cap’n Crunch really a captain?

AKRON, OH – Tongue-in-cheek controversy threatens to sink reputation of a beloved cereal icon.

A writer at foodbeast.com pointed out that Cap’n Crunch isn’t actually a captain. According to the U.S. Navy the rank of captain carries four stripes; three would indicate he’s a commander.

Being a commander crunch doesn’t exactly have the same bite, especially since we’ve been calling him captain since the cereal first set sail in 1963.
