lightraillHOUSTON, TX – Metro rail service was shut down for part of the day after a woman (believed to be a college student) was hit and killed by an oncoming train. Metro authorities say the woman had just gotten off a different train just moments before at Main Street and Walker.

“Witnesses indicated she walked her bike off of the train and then got back on her bike to start riding west on Walker,” said Jerome Gray, Metro spokesperson.

Gray added that the victim was, “not noticing or not being able to see that there was a southbound train coming in her direction.”

Metro says witnesses tried to get the woman’s attention, and the oncoming train was blowing its horn but it was too late.

“The southbound train hit the young lady, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.”

A tragic end on the tracks.
