LONDON, ENGLAND – One group is raising awareness for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome with their pits. Move over Movember, Armpits-4-August is around the corner. People are growing out their armpit hair to shed light on the syndrome, which can cause excessive hair growth.
And while they’re at it, the movement aims to shave the stigma that hairy women face.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is just as it sounds. According to the Mayo Clinic, it’s a condition where (most of the time) numerous cysts line up along the ovaries. It affects up to 10% of women and has been linked to acne and obesity, not to mention diabetes and heart disease.
Awareness and early diagnosis can help reduce the risk of long-term complications.
A good reason to bare your hair this August!
