HOUSTON – One person’s junk is another person’s treasure. Maybe that’s why a group of suspected thieves hit up a junk yard in north Harris County.

Police say a security guard at the junk yard saw the suspected thieves on surveillance video. He called 911. When police got there, they caught the group in the act. That’s when the group got into a stolen pick-up and tried getting away. But they didn’t get very far. The truck rammed not one, but two patrol cars on its way out. Deputies ordered them out of the car. They responded by putting the truck in reverse again. That left the deputies with few options.

“At that point the deputies discharged their weapons at the truck. The driver was struck one time,” said deputy Thomas Gilliland, Harris County Sheriff’s office.

The driver was taken to the hospital and is expected to be fine. A passenger was arrested and two others got away.
