SAUDI ARABIA – A virus that causes coughing, fever and pneumonia may be coming from camels.
That’s according to new research.
Scientists believe victims of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronovirus may have contracted the disease from dromedary, or one-hump, camels.
The world health organization reports 94 confirmed cases of the virus, mostly from Saudi Arabia, with 46 of those fatal.
Scientists believe they may have contracted it from the one-humped camels used for meat, milk, transport and racing in the region.
Those camels were found to have antibodies, which means they had the virus at some point but that doesn’t prove it ultimately came from those camels
At least this new discovery is pointing scientists in the right direction toward a possible cure.
