It wasn’t too long ago when the only worry at the start of the school year was getting a cool teacher and a good seat on the bus. There wasn’t much to stress about back then — now? Things have changed.
There are a lot of kids on YouTube saying, “School Sucks!”
They’re not kidding. Kids and parents have so much more on their plate these days. Sometimes you run away from the school instead of running to school.
This week near Atlanta is another example.
Sometimes the threat at school is not from a maniac with a gun, it’s from a teacher whose career should be done. A study done years ago by the Department of Education suggested one in ten students is sexually victimized by a teacher.
Sometimes you have to remind yourself we will never be holding a sign that says, “we’re No. 1.”
A new study, from the group Pearson, says Finland and South Korea have the best education systems in the world. The United States ranks 17th.
I wonder how many teaching jobs are open in Finland right now? At last check, the Houston Independent School District has 99! Not good with the school year starting.
So, if you can make it through the threats, the bad teachers and the bad rankings there is light at the end of the ‘school suck’ tunnel.
U.S. News and World Report says this country has some of the best universities in the world.
Admit it; no one does college like Americans.
Although, the party is over when you max out your visa credit cards for tuition and all those kids from Finland and South Korea with student visas get better grades than you.
