HOUSTON – We all remember that infamous scene from ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ you now, the ‘There’s no place like home…’ scene.

Now some families in Houston are going to be able to say just that. The City of Houston’s Housing and Community Development, along with the Houston Habitat for Humanity were able to make 11 families’ dreams of owning a home come true.

A dedicated ceremony was held for the families.

“I’m glad that I finally get a chance to own my own home. It’s been a life-long dream for me and I just thank God I was able to get in touch with this program,” said Joslyn Philipps.

The Houston Habitat for Humanity has built 99 new homes in the fifth ward community since 1987, a tradition they continue today that allowed these families to finally have a place to call home.
