Etsy Pulls “Pro-Rape” T-Shirts after Online Petition

You can find just about anything on the online marketplace Etsy. And until last week, you could also find “pro-rape” t-shirts.

One of its sellers ‘fyourtshirt’ was selling a collection of seven t-shirts with slogans making light of rape. Some of the slogans included:

“Stalking You, Cuz Nobody Else Will”

“Autumn is Perfect for Date Rape”

“I’m a Sensitive Guy, I Only Rape Pregnant Women”

The vulgar t-shirts set off a firestorm and incited the Rape Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) to create a Change.org petition to remove the user. So far over 6,000 people have signed the petition.

Now when you search for “rape” or “sexual assault” t-shirts on Etsy, you get anti-rape tees. The seller ‘fyourtshirt’ has also been pulled from the site.

The only positive thing is any jerk who bought these t-shirts before they were pulled, would be a red flag, to stay away from.

Still, I just can’t believe that they were allowed on to begin with. I understand that it’s difficult to pull every offensive item from Etsy but maybe they should go through and do a search with key words like ‘rape’, ‘sexual assault’, ‘domestic violence’. Maybe these stats will give them some motivation.

According to RAINN:

There are an average of 207,754 Victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year. Every two minutes someone in the U.S. is Sexually Assaulted.

Rape and sexual assault should never be in style.
