And here I thought the most offensive Halloween costume this year would be Miley Cyrus twerking. Boy was I wrong. From black face to murderers, there are quite a few offensive costumes out there.
Dancer turned actress, Julianne Hough decided to go as “Orange Is the New Black” character Crazy Eyes. The 25-year-old donned blackface, complete with an orange jumpsuit and bantu knots. No surprise, people were offended by her costume choice. And she of course apologized.
But honestly, that’s nothing compared to two Cape Coral, Florida morons. They decided to go as Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman. This is offensive on so many levels. Not only did 25-year-old William Filene wear blackface and a hoodie with blood splattered all over it, his friend 22-year-old Greg Cimeno decided to wear a “Neighborhood Watch” t-shirt and uses his fingers as a gun and point them at “Trayvon”. Not only is it racist, its offensive considering a kid actually died this way. How would you feel if someone dressed up like your slain relative?
But believe it or not, these aren’t the most offensive costumes. I did a search and here are some of the other ones I came across, James Holmes from the Colorado movie theatre massacre, Jackie O and JFK after his assassination, a suicide bomber, Casey Anthony, and two that I don’t even feel comfortable showing you. One is a Boston bomb victim and the other is a victim from the Columbine School shooting. One person also asked on Yahoo if it would be offensive to be Ariel Castro, with three women chained behind him. What do you think?!
I’m all about Halloween costumes but these are just wrong. Halloween doesn’t give you an excuse to be insensitive, or racist. Don’t disrobe your conscience when you put on that costume.
And that’s today’s helping of The Online Dish with Maggie.
