HOUSTON, TX – As the world continues to honor the life and legacy of former South African president, Nelson Mandela, Houstonians plan to do some remembering of their own.

This Saturday, December 14 at 3:00 p.m., Houston will join the worldwide celebration and host a city-wide commemoration at the George R. Brown Convention Center to pay tribute to the leader who passed away last week.

“I’d like to say that we are honoring and celebrating not just an ordinary human being but an extraordinary human being,” said Rev. Hunt Harris.

The program is described as an ‘inspirational’ event for people of all ages.

A group of well-known local leaders will also be in attendance and stand together in a never-done-before representation of unity.

“Because, the truth of the matter is, as Mr. Mandela lived and taught to show us, we are all one family,” said Bishop James Dixon.

And what’s a better time than this time of year to show it?
