HOUSTON, TX – For most college grads, getting a college degree is hard enough; even more difficult for 55-year-old James Blake.

Sure, he’s older than most of his UHD classmates; but because of a stroke he suffered in 2007 at the age of 47, he doesn’t have use of the right side of his body and is bound to a wheelchair. That didn’t hold him back though.

James Blake says, “It’s kind of hard to believe I actually went through this. I don’t know how else to say it except that it’s been a joy, it’s been a lot of fun, it’s been an eye opening experience.  The first couple of years that I spent at the university have been finding myself, finding out how to perform at my best, and the last two years have been absolutely wonderful.”

He’s also incredibly humble about his situation, adding, “as far as being an inspiration? I don’t know that I am, but if somebody looks at me and says hey in my condition, if he can do it, so can I, well then it served a good purpose.”

Even though he doesn’t think so himself, James Blake is a true inspiration for anybody facing adversity, in life, or academics.
