VOLGOGRAD, RUSSIA – Russian committees are busy preparing for the 2014 Winter Olympic games in Sochi, while Russian authorities are on high alert after a series of explosions killed dozens of people over the past few days.

At least 17 people died after a blast at a train station in Volgograd on Sunday, and at least 14 others were killed when a bomb tore apart a passenger bus in the same city.

No one has taken responsibility for the blasts but all eyes are on a Chechen separatist group that has vowed to disrupt the winter games.

Russian president Vladimir Putin promises that despite the threats the games will be safe and security will be tight.
