HOUSTON, TX – It isn’t hard to find panhandlers in Houston, but if a new proposal is approved, solicitors will be booted out of medians of busy Houston intersections.

“Where once it seemed to be fairly safe to have the occasional panhandler, when you’re packed into heavy traffic, coming through and asking for that dollar or two, it’s become a much more serious problem,” said Harris County Commissioner Jack Cagle.

Every once in a while you’ll find aggressive panhandlers in Harris County, but the new proposal is for their safety as well as the safety of drivers.

If the new regulations are enforced, officers would be able to issue citations if the solicitors don’t stay off the medians, which could possibly lead to arrests.
