BOSTON, MA – In a strange twist of events, the female figure skater who finished third at the Olympic trials is getting the boot from the team.

The U.S. Figure Skating Association is saying so long to Mirai Nagasu, and welcome to (fourth place finisher) Ashley Wagner.

Maybe it’s not quite as dramatic as we make it sound, but the decision has left a lot of people feeling cold. Apparently the committee gets to secretly vote on who will officially represent the States on skates, and they decided that Wagner – who choked at the championships (which also serves as the trials) – was more deserving of the slot! Wagner won last year’s nationals, and was expected to be in Sochi. So they wiggled her in!

Guess we should all get on the Wagner. Especially if it leads to gold!
