DURANGO, CO – It is the ultimate sister act. One Sochi-bound athlete bows out, to let her twin get in.

Tracy Barnes gave her spot on the Olympic biathlon team to her sister Lanny, who missed out on qualifying when she caught a bad cold. This will be Lanny’s third shot at Olympic glory in the sport that combines rifle shooting and cross country skiing.

Both sisters were in Torino in 2006, but only Lanny made it to Vancouver last time around. At those games she placed 23rd in the 15 kilometer individual event (which happens to be the best finish for an American woman since 1994).

Tracy is now out of the running for an Olympic medal. But sister of the year is a definite possibility!
