LAGOS, NIGERIA – People are arrested when they break the law. In Nigeria, dozens are being arrested for being gay.

It’s no secret that the nation is highly religious and conservative. Last year, the Nigerian Parliament even passed the same-sex marriage prohibition act, and it was signed into action by the President last week. In short, the intent of the bill is to basically ban anything associated with being gay in the country.

Police have reportedly been targeting gay men, then torturing them into naming dozens of gays or people involved in gay organizations.

Thirty-eight men have already been arrested and police are reportedly looking for another 168.
