HOUSTON, TX – Houston Independent School District has announced a proposal that includes closing five schools at the end of the year. The schools on the list include: Dodson, Nathaniel Q. Henderson and Port Houston Elementary Schools, as well as Fleming Middle and Jones High School.

Parents we talked to at Dodson were not pleased.

“I think it’s pretty sad, this is a very good school, it’s been exemplary so it’s kind of hard to accept,” said Monica Bakhari.

According to H.I.S.D., the plan will “allow enrollment and resources to be better distributed across campuses” and they picked those particular schools after a study on “enrollment data and demographic patterns.”

More questions remain to be answered. Each campus is supposed to host a community meeting to get a dialogue going.  A final vote will be on March 13.
