HOUSTON, TX – On the west side, it was a busy day for Houston police who chased a stolen car and tracked down two missing children.

The incident began when a mother drove to the 11,000 block of Westheimer, where she jumped out to run an errand, leaving the car running. When she called police, she reported an Hispanic man had stolen her car and that her two babies, aged 2 and 11 months, were in the car.

According to police the alleged car thief went to a gas station and got out, where another guy spotted the running car, jumped in and, for the second time, the car was stolen.

As the apparent double car jacking continued, where were the kids? Were they in the car? Neighbors say they were at home on the playground, safe and sound.

Police apprehended and released the alleged opportunistic would-be car thief who claimed his joy ride did not include children. Now cops are left to sort out who stole what when and where the children were to being with.

The kids are safe. That`s what matters.
