WASHINGTON, D.C. – They say it takes a village to raise a child, and at the National Zoo it takes five surrogate “mama” bears to raise one sloth bear cub.

The five zoo keepers had to quickly turn into mama bears for this yet-to-be named three month old cub.

The cub had to be pulled from its biological mom a week after its December 29th birth because the mom was eating her cubs.

Kind of like animal CPS, the keepers took the cub and are temporary adoptive bear moms.

Eventually they’ll try to put her back with her mom and if that doesn’t work her papa bear might get full custody.
