HOUSTON, TX – It’s not often you hear stories like this. But when you do it’s almost impossible to not feel some level of sadness.

The body of a little girl was found lifeless in the kitchen of a Southwest Houston apartment. Investigators believe she was about 9-years-old and police say she suffered from cerebral palsy.

The Houston Fire Department was called to Happy Home Apartments on Club Creek Drive after a concerned neighbor found her body in the unit.

The neighbor says he hadn’t seen the girl in a few months and when he saw the apartment door unlocked he decided to check on her.

Sadly, what he saw inside looked nothing like a happy home.

By the time paramedics got to her, she was already dead.

So far, police haven’t been able to get in touch with the girl’s mother, but they did reach her father who says he’s “distraught.”

Still no word on how she died.
