Comcast is going to use your router as free WiFi hotspot

HOUSTON, TX – Did you hear what Comcast is up to?

The tech giant has turned about 50,000 personal modems into public hotspots in Houston. It will be free for Comcast customers to use — yes, just Comcast users.

If you or someone you know, has a Comcast modem/router combination, be on the lookout for a new WiFi network popping up on your list — “xfinitywifi” to be exact

But before you freak out and think this is gonna slow down your WiFi roll take a deep breath, because Comcast says it won’t. Well, they say they anticipate “minimal impact” if you find that reassuring.

If you’re a Comcast customer, all you have to do is jump on their website to find the nearest WiFi spot.
