TAIWAN – A downtown district of the southern Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung was ripped apart just before midnight Thursday by a series of explosions that killed at least 25 people and injured hundreds more, state news agency CNA reported.

So how did this happen?

Authorities believe underground gas leaks from petrochemical pipelines built alongside the city’s sewer system  triggered the multiple explosions.

As they continue to investigate, a city is left shocked after being blasted by such tragedy.
