International Day of the Female Orgasm: a holiday to celebrate with a big “O”

ESPERANTINA, Brazil – Ah, the big “O”!  If Bigfoot and Nessy have their own special days, why not a day to search for another mythological creature?  Today, August 8,  is the International Day of the Female Orgasm.  Fake it until you make it!

The tradition originated in Northern Brazil, with an elected official trying to compensate for the sexual debt he owed to his wife.  The idea spread fast throughout South America and Northern Europe, where sex and holidays are always a good thing.

So, how do people celebrate the day?  Rituals vary from country to country: some women scream, some scratch, some laugh, some want a snuggle, some talk non-stop and some need another celebration immediately.  Unfortunately, several studies suggest 30% of women worldwide don’t know what we’re talking about.

The International Day of the Female Orgasm is a good chance to raise awareness about women’s sexuality and the importance of pleasure in our lives.  A day to learn about sex?  That sounds okay!
