HOUSTON, TX - Alright Houston, you know what day it is. Yep. It's the last Friday of the month. And you know what that means: it's Food Truck Friday. And if you're one of those who likes their food trucks gourmet, fast and a little bit artsy, you're going to love rolling with these guys. Welcome aboard the Skratch truck.
"I believe our success is all about customer service and being friendly," owner Carlos Villarreal says. "Coming from the restaurant business that's what you strive for everyday, and of course, it's great quality food."
It's everything from chicken sandwiches to lobster rolls and every type of burger you could imagine. And Chew on This: just like the sign says, everything onboard is made from scratch.
"It's a little more time-consuming," Villarreal says, "but you know what, you control the quality. For example, our burgers, we hand-form our burgers, they're not a frozen patty."
The truck is the brainchild of Carlos and his partner Paul Hill. After 20-plus years in the restaurant business, the pair found themselves with a little extra time on their hands. And a truckload of ideas.
"Paul and I were both downsized form our jobs," Villarreal explains, "and we said, 'you know what, it's time to do our own thing.'"
They've been on the street and rolling a little over a year now. And so far, the folks have been rolling in. Which shouldn't be surprising, after all, aren't most great business ideas made from scratch?
