HOUSTON, TX - It's hard to see a cherished piece of history go down in ruins, but that's exactly what has fifth ward residents outraged.

The battle over Wheatley High School has now made its way into the courtroom.

Wheatley High School has been a landmark in Houston's fifth ward community for years -- 101 to be exact.

Just last week, residents woke up to the sound of the historic building being torn down.

But abruptly, as the wrecking balls were already at work, HISD and community leaders came to an agreement to temporarily stop the demolition.

For now, the future of Wheatley High School rests in the judge's hands.
