HOUSTON, Tx -- A real-life case of fatal attraction is going down in a Houston courtroom.

Ana Gonzalez-Angulo, a world-renowned doctor, is accused of poisoning her ex-lover, Dr. George Blumenschein.

If that's not crazy enough: jurors got to listen to "secret tapes" that were recorded by the victim.

The two oncologists met at M.D. Anderson and started out as friends, but that spiraled into a secret love affair in 2011.

Now, here's where the story takes a scary and unusual twist.

Prosecutors say Blumenschein and his longtime girlfriend, Evette Toney, were trying to have a baby.

And claim that when Gonzalez-Angulo found out, she gave him two cups of coffee spiked with ethylene glycol -- a chemical found in anti-freeze.

Of course, the defendant's lawyers say otherwise and witnesses say Gonzalez-Angulo blamed the girlfriend.

The trial is expected to last another week and if she's convicted, she could face up to life in prison.
