HOUSTON, Texas – It’s like a breath of fresh air: religious and community leaders are promoting a new initiative to ban smoking in cars with kids inside.

Imam Qasim Ibn Ali Khan from the Masjid At-Tawhid community center wants Texas to join other states such as Louisiana, California, Maine, Ohio, Utah and Oregon in passing legislation to protect kids from the risks of secondhand smoke.

“The American society is not disciplined enough to voluntarily stop smoking in vehicles,” said the Imam, “so we’re requesting the Texas State lawmakers to make it illegal to smoke in cars where children are present.”

Promoters of the ban say the first step is to raise awareness, but they are also meeting with legislators to move this project forward.

So now you know, if you are on a highway to hell, then please, don’t take your children with you.
