BERKELEY, California -- It's a good thing that Bill Maher's mission in life isn't to make friends. The HBO comic really has a way of pressing people's buttons.
Recently on Real Time, Maher made comments about Islam that some, like Marium Navid, find particularly distressing.
“The first amendment gives you the right to address your concerns, to express your opinions. But that first amendment doesn't say you get to sit on a pedestal and give that commencement speech,” says Navid.
Navid, a student senator at UC Berkeley, takes issue with the way Maher insisted that a majority of Muslims believe in violence. Now, she is running a change.org petition to get Maher removed as the school's commencement speaker in December.
