HOUSTON, Texas -- Houston has the highest property and violent crime rates in the state, says an FBI report. If you need proof, then look at last night where there were four separate shootings in H-Town.
Dr. Luis Salinas of the Deprtment of Sociology at the University of Houston explained, "A lot of that is simply the function that we`re larger than any of the other cities in Texas."
Here are the stats for Houston in 2013 -- 214 murders, 618 rapes, nearly 10,000 robberies and over 10,000 aggravated assaults.
Dallas with almost half of Houston`s population, investigated 143 murders, which places Big D in first place percentage wise.
San Antonio had the most rape cases at 663.
"A little disheartening really because we do live here and we want our city to be safe and it`s unfortunate that it`s not sometimes," commented Houston resident Trevor Self.
"It isn`t surprising. We`re a pretty big city and we`re also a pretty metropolitan, pretty dense inside the loop," according to Laura Longoria.
But with the bad news, comes some good.
"We do need to keep in mind that we are the largest city and also our crime has come down one to 10 percent from last year," added Dr. Salinas.
If you`re looking for somewhere safe to live, then you might want to move to Wink, Texas, where only four crimes were reported among the 980 residents.
