HOUSTON, Texas – The rekindled rivalry was hot. The game was not. Not if you’re a University of Texas football fan, after the Longhorns were bowled over by their arch-enemy, the Arkansas Razorbacks in the 2014 Advocare Texas Bowl held at NRG Stadium. Arkansas beat down Texas 31-7. Ouch!

The evening started out optimistically for UT fans. But the Hogs had a hunch things were going to go their way, and it did because by the time Arkansas scored with a fumble recovery, the were leading Texas 17-0 in the second quarter, The blowout was well under way. Fortunately the Longhorns kept the game from being a shutout with a lone touchdown coming on quarterback Tyrone Swoopes 9-yard carry in the second quarter, but in the end it was Arkansas that had their hooks in Texas, and not the other way around.

This was the first game these former Southwest Conference rivals played together since 2008. The stakes were high, and UT’s head coach Charlie Strong didn’t mince words after his team got trampled, “As a coach, we’ve got to do a better job at coaching. we didn’t do a great job at coaching this year. we’ve got to develop and we’ve got to get the pride back into this program. Texas has got to mean something… right now, it doesn’t mean much.”

But not all is lost for Texas teams. In College Station, the Aggies are celebrating after their 45-37 victory over West Virginia in the Liberty Bowl. So thumbs up Aggies on your fourth straight bowl win. And University of Texas football fans, dust off those horns and get back into the saddle.
