HOUSTON, TX - The year was 1945.

During the first week of January, Time Magazine announced its Man of the Year: Gen. Dwight Eisenhower, Supreme Allied Commander in Europe and future president of the United States.

Later that same week, on January 6, 16-year-old Barbara Pierce married 17-year-old George Herbert Walker Bush, Navy pilot and future president of the United States.

Over the years, the Bushes had children. Two of the boys became state governors and one of them, also, became a president.

Nowadays, Mrs. Bush lets her husband go out in public wearing colorful socks when he’s not celebrating his birthdays by jumping out of perfectly good airplanes.

Today, they’re still getting around, maybe not as much, and maybe not as easily, but 70 years is a milestone we should all be so lucky to reach.

So, happy anniversary to the Bushes. The eyes, and hearts, of Texas are with you today.
