Boyfriend charged in connection with Houston prom death

HOUSTON, Texas – Charges have been filed in connection with the death of a MacArthur High School senior after her prom in May of 2014.

18-year-old Eddie Herrera has been charged with aggravated assault. His girlfriend, 17-year-old Jacqueline Gomez, was found dead at the Hyatt Regency the morning after their prom, which was also at the hotel.

Herrera initially told police that the couple had been drinking in the room they rented and the next morning, Gomez didn’t wake up. But now his story seems to be changing. He reportedly admits to choking her.

The case remains under investigation.
