HARRIS COUNTY, TX- The Harris County Sheriff's Office has been cracking down on drivers who have a need for speed. It's a part of their Friday night street racing initiative. Since its launch last weekend, deputies have already arrested eight people and handed out 13 traffic citations.

Cool as it looks on the big screen, street racing is a Class B misdemeanor. If you're caught, you could face up to a $2,000 fine, 180 days in jail and even risk having your driver's license suspended.

Oh, and don't think that just because you're not the driver, that you're in the clear. Street racing passengers can be punished just as severely and even spectators can be fined.
